Correlate wells side by side, on your own machine

Align multiple wells on one depth axis, pick and correlate formation tops, tie them across the field, and flatten on a marker to see what the structure is actually doing, before any of it becomes a volume.

Well Correlation is the front of the workflow. Load LAS and DLIS wells into a project folder you choose on your computer, lay them out in one panel, and build the stratigraphic picture that everything downstream depends on. Wells, tops, and correlation projects are written to that folder through the browser File System Access API, not to our database.

Build the correlation

Everything here operates on the wells in your project folder, in the depth reference and unit system you have set:

  • Multi-well panel: lay wells side by side on a shared depth axis, reorder them, and choose which curves each column shows
  • Formation tops: pick tops per well, name and colour them consistently, and edit them in a tops table rather than curve by curve
  • Tie-lines: connect the same top across wells so the correlation is explicit and reviewable, not implied by eye
  • Flatten on a marker: re-datum every well to a chosen top so you can compare zone thickness and internal character without structural dip in the way
  • Depth reference: work in MD, TVD, or TVDSS; TVDSS resolves from the well survey and KB elevation, and degrades to TVD then MD when survey data is absent
  • Import tops from CSV: bring an existing tops set in rather than re-picking it, with every row applied

A base map that is actually to scale

Correlation without a map is half the picture. The well base map plots wells on true X/Y with a single shared scale for both axes, so distances and spacing read correctly rather than being stretched by independent axis normalisation. Post a formation top or a zone thickness at each well and contour it by inverse-distance weighting or Delaunay triangulation to see the structural or isopach trend the correlation implies. Depth postings are structure-referenced rather than raw measured depth, so wells with different trajectories compare honestly.

Hand off without copy-paste

When the correlation is settled, stage a well into Formation Evaluation through an explicit in-browser bridge: you review what is being carried across before anything downstream changes, instead of a silent overwrite. Correlation projects, tops, and display templates save to your project folder, so reopening a case gives you the same panel you left.

Common questions

Where are my wells stored?

In a project folder you pick on your own computer, through the browser File System Access API. Well log files, tops, and correlation projects are written there, not to our database. DLIS conversion runs session-only and returns LAS-shaped data straight to your browser without retaining the file.

Can I correlate wells with different depth units?

Yes. Wells are normalised to a common display basis for the panel, and edits are converted back to each well's native unit before saving, so a mixed feet-and-metres project does not corrupt on save.

Does flattening change my data?

No. Flattening re-datums the display so every well is drawn relative to the chosen marker. The stored depths are untouched; you can switch the datum or turn flattening off at any time.

What happens after correlation?

Stage a well into Formation Evaluation through an explicit bridge with a review step, interpret it there, then carry zone averages into Volumetrics the same way. Each handoff shows you what is moving instead of overwriting silently.
